What Is Meiso? Exploring the Meaning Behind the Word
What Is Meisō?
The name of our studio is often the first thing people ask about.
"What does Meisō mean?" they’ll wonder aloud, the word unfamiliar but inviting.
And we love this question, because it opens the door to a conversation we return to again and again: the power of stillness, and what it means to choose it.
Meisō (written 眩想 in Japanese) has many meanings. One meaning is meditation. But unlike the clinical or modern mindfulness interpretations we often hear, this word carries an atmosphere of reverence. It points not just to a technique, but to an experience, a softening inward, a remembering, a return.
At Studio Meisō, we chose this name with care. We wanted something that reflected both our roots and our values: a commitment to sacred space, to the unseen layers of self, and to the ritual of showing up to your own inner world.
We believe that meditation is not an escape, but a reunion. Not something you "get good at," but something you remember how to do. In many ways, that’s the ethos of everything we offer:
In sound meditation, we use frequency and stillness to invite you into deep listening.
In Reiki, we honor the energetic field of the body and the quiet wisdom it holds.
In our seasonal rituals, we mark time intentionally, tuning into the cyclical rhythm of the natural world and of our lives.
This is what Meisō means to us. And if you’re called here, it might be what it means to you, too.
A pause. A practice. A place to begin again.
